Walking on Water

You’ve prayed fervently. You’ve done what He’s asked of you. You’ve been waiting ever so patiently (and sometimes, impatiently!). But you’re miracle still hasn’t come.
When God has us in a season of waiting, it’s natural to start feeling restless. You haven’t gotten what you’ve been praying for. You haven’t received healing. You haven’t been blessed with a child. You haven’t found the right person to share your life with. The tide hasn’t changed. Where is your miracle?
The Distracting Current
It is easy to become discouraged and frustrated when your heart is longing for something so deeply. You wonder what is taking so long, and if God is hearing you. We may start to feel frantic, as though we aren’t doing enough to “earn” our miracle. So, we counter by taking control into our own hands, seeking out everything in our power to get us from Point A to Point B. This quickly leads to stress and anxiety. Why do we put the extra pressure on ourselves? We end up paddling desperately, trying to force the miracle on our own.

The problem here is that we end up going nowhere. We get lost in waves of distractions, and we are ultimately unable to sustain ourselves in the current. Our eyes remain shut tight, and we lose hope and focus of what is ahead. Think about how Peter began to sink when He lost sight of Jesus on the water. We end up gasping for air, breathing erratically, and flailing to stay afloat. And friends, we become exhausted after treading water for so long. We run out of oxygen, and we tire ourselves from trying. We are left exhausted, and still without what we wanted.
A Peaceful Float
In these times, I believe that God is calling us to be still. Just think if we were to relax, lie down and float, rather than frantically flailing in the water. We would work with the water and not against it. You’d open your eyes to focus on Jesus. You’d turn your gaze back on Him. Your rocky edges would be smoothed in the waves, and you could breathe easy and deeply. Then, you would feel his peace. You would feel his love. That trusting calm changes everything. Remember, He calmed the storm once, and He will do it again.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.” Exodus 14:14 Once we are still and focused back on God, our memories can flood in. We remember who He is. We remember how he carried us through the darkest times in our lives. Our sin, sometimes, is that we forget. When we experience worry, fear or discouragement, we lose sight of the miracles before us. But when we keep our eyes fixed on God, our season of waiting can deepen and mature our faith and allow Him the time and space He needs to broaden our understanding.
Crystal Clear Waters
Often times, miracles seem distant to us and too far-reaching. The signs and wonders of Bible stories are a distant memory. We don’t expect to hear God through a burning bush. We tend to settle and accept mediocre faith, rather than listening to the voice of truth and opening our hearts to dream and hope in our future. But what is a miracle anyway?
Miracles are defined as “wonders performed by supernatural powers as signs of a special mission or gift, explicitly ascribed to God.” To me, a miracle is simply seeing the undeniable presence of God. We must have constant awareness of His presence and acknowledge that He is always working in our lives.

Friends, He does not hide from us. He hears you. He didn’t bring you this far to leave you, and He has always walked beside you. He gives us His whole self and deserves the same in return. Whether you are in a season of waiting, joy, or pain, remember that God is still good. I do believe in miracles, whether or not I see them with my own eyes.
“Eye has not seen, ear has not heard what God has ready for those who love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9) The Changing Tide When waiting for your miracle, pay attention to the longing of your heart. Rely on the stirring within your soul. I feel it is there for a reason, and it is a powerful indicator of what God has in store for you. I firmly believe that if God has put a desire on your heart, He will fulfill it. He wants you to be happy and complete. We cannot know how, when, or in what way this will be. But if we submit ourselves to His will, our desires are in fact His desires as well. “Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” —Psalm 37:4
You should never stop praying for miracles. Boldly and confidently ask for them. My God is a God of miracles. He is the same God that changed water into wine, healed the sick and raised the dead. Can we boldly ask Him to part the sea again? We must be confident in His strength and power. Don’t be afraid to ask him to heal you, fill your net with fish, deliver you from the lion’s den, calm the storm in your heart, or part the sea for your path. He may not send a burning bush, but I trust Him to reveal Himself to us when we ask. I trust Him when he asks me to wait and walk around Jericho one more time. He is always faithful, and we can trust His character.

So, don’t be stuck in discouragement. Take a step of obedience, and He will take care of the rest. Remember that gratitude restores faith and drowns out evil. God is always enough. Believe that God is who He says He is, and you are who He says you are. I believe sometimes the greatest miracle is the conversion of our own hearts and our willingness and courage to take a leap of faith. When we say yes to God, miracles happen—walls crash down and the heaven’s gates fly open. So, lean in closer, wade a little deeper, and rest in his arms. Have peace with where He has you on your journey. You are exactly where He wants you.
Learn to pray for miracles. Expect them. Boldly believe, be courageously confident, and ask for the knowledge and wisdom to see them. You will recognize His work. Simply keep your eyes on Jesus— and you can walk on water, too.
Lord, help us to believe in miracles and boldly pray for them. Open our eyes to see the miracles before us and transform our hearts by the power of Your love.
